I went to the MS offfice site and tried to download a service pack, when I
went there, I downloaded the update and tried to install. I then get a
window asking me for teh office CD. I put it in and it says it can't up
date.....

What to do???
Is it normal to not be able to update Office????

Hey, thanks alot for your reply, basically, it asks me for the office cd,
even though I am downloading the service pack form the website, which in
itself I don't understand. And then I put in the cd and it say it does not
match the office that I have. I am sorry that I dont ahve the exact message
because I am not at work but that is the jist.

I look forward to your thoughts

Hi, bob. See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=255499 "OFF2000: Why
the Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a Update Requires the Office 2000 CDs". The
same rationale applies to SP2 and SP3 too. It would really help to know
the exact error message. For example, "unexpected version found" has a
different cause than "update unsuccessful". One possibility is that if
you have an OEM version of Office 2000 that came preinstalled on the
computer by the computer manufacturer, then it's possible that the OEM
used one Office 2000 version to image your hard drive, but tossed a
different Office 2000 version CD into the box with your computer. If
this is the case, and if you have the 25-digit product key for your
Office 2000 CD, then you can fix the problem by uninstalling and
reinstalling from your CD. If this is your work computer, why can't you
get the computer geeks at work to fix it for you? And if the computer
geeks don't know how, then your company needs better geeks.

I am at work but I am a 4 man shop, we don't have any computer geeks. I
think your explanation seems to be the answer.
