Can't view pictures in Power Point

In Power Point, I can't see the pictures when I insert them. I can see them
when I view the slide presentation. Can someone help me find the setting
that I need to change? I tried to restore it to default settings, but that
didn't work. I'm not sure what is wrong.

What version of PowerPoint are you using?
Did you apply all the Windows and Office updates?
Do you have a local (not network) printer installed?

I have Office 2003. Service Pack 2.

Yes, I have local printers installed.

I can't see backgrounds either.
