Can't view Publisher 2000 file in Publisher 2000

I have Publisher 2000 but recently 2 different people have sent me Publisher
2000 files that I cannot view - I get a message saying it's in a different
version. However, both senders advise the files are definitely Publisher
2000. Is it possible that different patches may have made the difference or
could it be something else?
