catalog merge: some data fields are changed to "0" after defining.

When I use the Catalog Merge Wizard and get to the step of defining and
editing my data source, I notice that some fields in the result have dropped
their original values and have been changed to "0". I checked the orginial
data source (Excel file) and the data is still there. What to do?
