Change the folder where e-mail messages and attachments are saved

I tried the procedure on the Microsoft Help site:

I can't seem to get it to work for me. I can create the path but I cannot
get Outlook to accept the path as the default location.
Here is the path now:
C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst
In My Documents I created a Folder named Outlook Data Folder.
This is where I want the messages stored.
C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\My Documents\Outlook Data Folder
Outlook adds this to the above address:
\Personal Folders(1).pst
But my messages still will not go to the desired location.

that changes the folder you see first when you click File, save on a message
or to save attachments, not the location of the pst. if you want to move the
pst, close outlook, move the pst to the new location then go to control
panel, mail and add this pst to your profile and remove the other - then set
it as default delivery location and restart outlook.
