change the starting number for autonumbering

Using Word 2003. How do you change the number sequence that automunbering
begins on?

I have a very large document and had to break it in half to work on it. The
only problem is that I cannot change the starting number that autonumbering
begins on and I cannot get the paragraphs to number consecutively.

If you are wanting to change the numbering of a "Numbered" or "Outline
Numbered" paragragh, go to the position where you want the numbering to
change, either right-mouse or Format menu "Bullets and Numbering", the dialog
box should open up with the numbering type that is applied, click Customize
button, then for each level you can dictate the number you want to start at,
OK. If all styles are applied correctly all subsequent numbers will follow
automatically.
If you have a List Style, you can use the Modify button to change the start
at number.
Hope this helps, come back if you need anything further.

mjsperco,
There is an option to set the starting number. If you go to Format - Bullets
and numbers - select the numbering style - click customize - next to start
numbering with you can change to a number of your choice.

Use a SEQ field for the numbering. You can then use a switch to set the
starting number and by bookmarking the final number of the preceding
document, you could then use a reference to that to control the starting
number.
