changes in formatting

word formatting is acting funny. if i want to underline a word and do so,
then the whole document is underlined, if i un-do, then just the original
word is underlined. same thing happens with bullet points, increase indent
etc. have nto consciously changed any formatting defaults etc??
any ideas?
