Changing a field format

I have imported 2 tables into my database. Both tables
have the same field.
The problem:
One field is formated: Jones, Christy while the other is
formatted Christy Jones. Is there a way to format the
other, that way the system would be able to read them
correctly and allow me to relate the two in order to run a
query?
