changing images in word causes Photoshops to open

If I select and copy an image from Adobe Photoshop and then paste it directly
into a word document it goes into the document as expected but then if I try
to change the size or position of the document it immediately opens up
photoshop and won't seem to let me do anything with the image in word.

Can anyone help me solve this?

Sure. Paste Special as a picture (JPG) instead.
