changing the password for a protected file

Hi
I have Project 2002 (yes, very old...). I saved my file w/ pw protection
using Save As and then Options. It works fine - but now I need to change the
password to a differnt word so others can access it. If I repeat the same
process (using Save As) it just keeps the old password. I want to "edit" the
actual password or assign a new one.

Can you help?

Thanks,
MaryS

Hello MaryS,

I don't have Project 2002 here to check, however, I don't think it has
changed much from 2002 to Project 2003.

To change the password, open the file supplying the original password.
Choose File > Save As, click the Tools drop down, select General Options
to open the Save Options dialog box. The existing password should show
(with ****) and should be selected. Type the new password replacing the
old password and click OK. In the Confirm Password dialog box, retype
the new password. Click OK to close the dialog box and return to the
Save As dialog box. Click the Save button to save the file with the
same name. When the prompt for "A file with name this already
exists...: Click OK to overwrite the file and change the password.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Julie,

Thanks for your complete info. I was doing steps as you listed so I couldn't
figure it out ... and then when I took a look at it this morning again I saw
the prob. The Save As was putting the file in My Doc folder instead of the
folder where I had been working. And so when I went to my working folder and
tried to open, it appeared as if the password had not been changed.

Thanks for you help.
