Hi,
We are using EPMS (MSP-2003 and PWA). Now there is a problem or i might say
its a bug in MSP 2003 that we are not able to change working time in calendar
from a particualr date.eg we want to cahnge working time from 1st may but we
need that the working time previous to that day might not change then it is
not possible. Here is where the bug is. Now you know organization working time
is not rigid it varies according to the needs of market then why this
facility is not there in MSP 2003.Hope it has been taken care in MSP 2007.If
any solution for such problem is there then i will appreciate if anybody of
you can mail me back

Prateek,
I would submit that "needs of the market" or not, working time is not
something that is likely to change on a regular basis. I could see a
different set of working times for summer versus winter perhaps, but
generally once a set of working time hours are set, they should stay
that way for an extended period.

I beg to differ when you say it is "not possible" to have date dependent
working times. Project has three basic calendars, the project calendar,
task calendars and resource calendars. Each of those calendars can be
modified to have different working times for any date or period of
dates. It's a matter of setting up the non-default shift times for each
date. You can also create separate custom calendars with different
working times.

Project 2007 has expanded capability with regard to setting exceptions
to the working time calendar. If you haven't already, you might want to
download a trial version and take a look.

Hi john,
Thanks for the reply. Actually you have not understood my problem. We
don't have summer and winter timings here.Previously we had a flexi hours of
working but now its fixed and the total working hours in a month has
increased. Now my oproblem is how to manage this. As some projects are running
from a long time following thwe old calendar and now the calendar has changed
so they must be scheduked acc to new calendar.now if i change calendar then
the whole calendar getrs changed even in previous days also.same is true with
project and resource calendar.

Oh by the way we are right now using MSP 2003.Thanks for all your help

In Project 2003 you have a couple of choices - either change working time
hours for ALL instances of a selected day-of-the-week both past and future,
or select specific dates and change their hours. So if your calendar starts
out with hours of 8 to 5 but starting May 1st it goes to 9 to 4, you have to
select manually the affected dates from 01 May until the date it reverts
back to the original times and change the times for the selection. It's a
LOT easier in 2007. Think about upgrading if it's a major issue for you.
