Check In Pending - Work Offline

D

Darrell

I am preparing to go on travel and need to work on my schedule while on the
road. I have opened the project from Project Server 2007, saved it, exited
and selected "Do Not Check In". Upon restarting Project Pro to open the
project offline the Open dialog box shows the Cache Status as "Pending Check
In" versus "Checked Out". Is this a queing issue? Is this an end user cache
issue? Is there a proven process for avoiding this problem?

If you closed the schedule as you say and chose the "do not check in"
option, then it should have worked as you expected. It should not have put
it in check-in pending state.

I would try again, maybe there was a mistake made in process

Jonathan,

Thanks for the reply. However, I have tried several times using several
different methods of closing the project and still have not been able to
reopen the project offline in "checked out" status. I even checked to verify
that the local cache was being saved to the local hard drive and not to a
network folder.

At this time I am trying again. However, I am waiting before reopening the
file to see if perhaps this is some kind of lag in the queing process. If not
I am at a loss and will try again on another users machine to see if it is
something on the local machine itself.

Darrell,

this may still be a local caching issue. I have experienced something
similar. I have cleared the local cash folder and that did the trick. Why
dont you try the same. Let me know how you go

Hello,

If you have saved the schedule, why you wanted not to check-in the
schedule? As Marc said you can keep deleting the cache folder so that
you get access to the project. When deleting it will say that you will
loss the changes, but don't need to worry as you ARE SAVING it before
you exit. Also one more thing, when you close the schedule, please
keep an eye on the queue to see if that has any pending SAVE job
running. And please wait until the jobs are getting completed and then
exit Project Professional.

Hope this helps,

Thanks,
Ravi.

Marc,

I have verified that the schedule is not checked out in the server, cleared
the local cache, opened the project, used File>save (waited for the save to
complete), File>exit, selected "Do not check in" and yet when I attempt to
reopen the project it is shown as "Pending Checkin" and will only open in
"Read Only" mode. I have even waited an hour before reopening the shcedule to
see if this was a timing issue with the queing process. I am not sure why
after selecting "Do not check in" there would be a reason for the "Pending
Check in" status.

Darell:

Is there a job pending in the queue? The only reason I know of for long
delays in the queue is when the time settings on the SQL server are out of
synch with the time settings on the web front end, unless other jobs are
blocking the current one.
