Checking web site before making it public

I am going to publish my site (upload it using FrontPage 2003) to the web host.
Question: is it possible to check functionality of the published web site
and at the same time make it (temporarily) unaccessible to other visitors?
Thank you for your input.

If your host supports subwebs, you could publish it to a subweb of your main
site, test it there, and then publish it to your main site when you're
ready.

Kathleen,
Thank you for your prompt response. I will try to find out if my host
supports subwebs.
But what happens if I publish (not to the subweb) my site without index.htm
page, will I be able to test my site then, will it be accessible by others?
Thank you.

It won't be accessable to others without the index unless they know actual page names.

Why not just publish it? It's not like the seo spiders are gonna jump on it immediately (could take weeks, months even)...no one's gonna know where your site is unless you tell them during that period of time.
