Circular Based On list

Might be easier to delete the .dot file for the template that has this
problem and start over.

The styles are in the document, which is based on normal.dot. There must be
an easier way of re-applying formatting styles than starting from scratch...?

If by this you mean want to restore the document, the styles of which you
have modified, to reflect how the styles appear in normal.dot, then
re-attach the normal template and check the automatically update styles
check box in the template dialog. (Tools > templates and add-ins in Word up
to 2003 - Document Template on the Developer tab in Word 2007)

Ihave no idea what the answer is, All I know is that Word keeps loosing the style I created. Each time I open the document, it is a problem. Can anyone tell me how to fix the style in question? What gives a style a circular based on lIst? Why isn't Word preventing this problem from happening?
Why are there so few templates with numbered sections?

Why does it display properly in some documents and not in others?
Why doesn't the little brush to copy styles work? ( I know the answer: Because the style has a "circular based on list" whatever that means...)
How do I create section headings that are numbered and will never catch that circular based on list disease?

Thank you in advance for your help!
How do I find out which styles are affected so I can break the circle?

Numbering is corrupt. You will have to create a new, blank document and then use the Insert File dialog box to bring in the content of your existing (damaged) document. Recreate the numbered styles as explained at http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/outlinenumbering.html (click the link that applies to your version of Word).
