code to prevent office files from opening in browser

Is there some html/java code that will prevent office files from opening in
the browser? If someone clciks on a link to an excel file, I want Excel to
open the file, not the browser. Please rely directly

The browser isn't opening the files. It is hosting an instance of Excel,
which is opening the file.

No, this depends on the users browser settings.
Consider zipping the file.

Doug,
This is an IE issue. Other browsers may or may not do this.
If you use Firefox it treats it as a download and will open
Excel, Word, etc.

The best way to avoid this is to zip the file

It's a per user setting (valid only in intranets)
