Color Code Resource Type

I have a standalone (not tasks) resource pool file with various resources -
staff, contractors, generic etc.. Is there a way to color code these
resources using a custom or other field? For example generic resource =
green, non-generic = red?

Thanks in advance.

MSPLearner,
What exactly do you mean by "color code the resources"? Why do you want
to color code them? In other words, tell us your end goal instead of a
specific method to get there. You can of course set the font for the
resource name so it is color coded but I don't think that is what you
want.

The end goal is to easily distinguish (using font, color etc) various kinds
of resources in a view - generic vs non-generic, project managers vs software
developers etc.. I do understand that views/filters can group resource types,
but I think distinction using color would be useful. Thanks for your help.

MSPLearner,
Well, there are several considerations. First of all, you mentioned that
you have a resource pool file. Font characteristics are specific to a
view so any characteristics applied to resources in the resource pool
file will only be visible for that particular view in that file - you
will not see the font characteristics in any sharer file that uses those
resources. Second, what about tasks that have more than one resource
assigned? For example, in a task view (e.g. Gantt Chart) all resources
are listed in the Resource Names field and whatever font characteristics
are applied to that field will be applied to all resources in that
field. Third, resources show up in different ways depending on the type
of view. As I noted above, in a task view resources are listed in the
Resource Names, (or Resource Group or Resource Initials), field. In a
Resource view they are listed as Names (or Group or Initials). In a
combination view they may show up either as resource names (Resource
Usage) or assignment names (Task Usage).

So, the bottom line is yes, it is possible to apply font characteristics
to resources (or any other data), but doing so requires customization of
every view. True, this can be automated with VBA but I'm not sure it is
really worth the effort.
