Color jpg's become b & w when inserted

I am using Publisher 98 in xp pro. When inserting a color
jpg in publication, the image turns into black & white. Any
suggestions on solving this would be appreciated.

This issue you describe is unknown in any version of Publisher.
I would suggest this would be a video driver issue.
Go to the website of your video card manufacturer and download and install
the latest version of the video driver to suit your model video card.

In addition to David's advice, be sure to go to View > Pictures and set
to Detailed Pictures.
