Color Question

For text, how many colors does Word support? I can't seem to get Word to
accept my custom colors. It converts them to a color instance close to, but
not the same as, the color I want.

Thanks for any replies

You don't say what version of Word you have. In Word 97 and earlier, there
are only 16 "color" choices for text, borders, and shading (some of these
are actually shades of gray). The only way to get more colors for text,
background, and lines is to use WordArt and AutoShapes. Word 2000 and above
have 24-bit color for text, borders, and shading, but you can't save custom
colors. The best way to apply a custom color to text is to create a
character style using that font color and apply it as needed. Needless to
say, these colors are not backward-compatible in Word 97 and earlier.
