Colouring in Gantt Chart

I

Ian Matthews

Hi,
On my Gantt Chart I am trying to show different groups of
dates as coloured bands down the length of my plan in
Project 2000.

For example, I want to colour all the chart from May 04 to
September 04 green, and from September 04 to March 05,
amber. This is to show the various stages of the project.

I've tried doing this with non-working days and by drawing
a polygon, but when I print, the shading is not shown down
the lenth of the plan (which has around 250 tasks)

Is there anyone there who has found a way around this
problem?

Cheers
Ian

Ian,
You don't say why drawing a rectangle didn't work. That would be my
first approach. However sometimes drawn features show fine on the screen
but don't quite work as intended on a printout. However, here is another
approach that will give the equivalent of what you want but it requires
a little work.

Go to Format/Barstyles and create two new bars, one green and one amber.
For the green bar set the "Show for. ." as Normal and set the "From" to
Start1 and "To" to Finish 1. Do the same for the amber bar except use
Start2 and Finish2. On the Gantt Chart view insert Start1, Start2,
Finish1 and Finish2. Now here's the fun part. Create custom fields for
Start1, Start2, Finish1 and Finish2. Develop a formula that populates
each of the four fields with either the Start (or Finish) date, your
cutoff date (e.g. 5.1.04, etc.), or "NA" as appropriate. When all that
is done, the Gantt Bars will be colored as desired.

In my opinion rather than trying to develop the rather complex formulas,
I would use a VBA macro to populate the spare start and finish fields.

Hope this helps.
John
