columns

fellows

I'm trying to create a doc with columns but I don't know how to toggle between the columns. My version of Microsoft Help is extremely limited. Thank you for your help.

Fellows, the short answer to your question is that Ctrl+Shift+Enter will
break the current column and take you to the top of the next one. Pressing
Ctrl+Shift+Enter in the last column on the right breaks the page and takes
you to the top of the next one. To move the cursor to the next column to the
right, End followed by Right Arrow. To move the cursor to the previous
column, Home followed by Left Arrow.

For the lowdown on columns, see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/UsingColumns.htm.

Now one more thing: Your question seems (to me) to imply you're looking to
put your text in "parallel columns," something Word doesn't offer. You might
want to consider putting your text in a single-row table instead, as they
recommend in the reference above.

For the creation of parallel columns Word uses tables.

I want to create parallel columns but don't want to see the table cells. How do I make the cells disappear?

Thanks, Tom

Tom,

If you don't want to see them in the printed version, select the whole table
and remove borders (you can do this either with Format|Borders and Shading,
or with the borders application popup button on the Tables and Borders
toolbar). If you don't want to see the gridlines in the screen view, you
will also need to select Hide Gridlines from the Table menu.

Regards,
Chad DeMeyer
