Compatibility advice

Dear Windowers,

I currently have bought a new laptop with Windows XP (with service pack 2)
and MS office 2003. I want to have the best compatibility possible between my
old computer (which runs on Windows 98se, Pentium3 600Mhz, 128MB RAM, 9GB
hard drive) and the new one.

Which MS Office version can I best use for my old computer for getting best
compability with MS Office 2003 files (word, excel, powerpoint), without
going over the limits.

Please let me know.

Best regards,
Wing

Office 2003 can't be installed on the old computer(Win98se) so that
leaves Office 97, 2000 or XP, the first 2 are pretty much unavailable so
that leaves Office XP.

Dear Bob,

thank you for your reply. I believe I have not frased my question properly.
I have installed MS office 2003 on my MS windows XP tablet pc version 2005
(with service pack 2).

I want to install another version on my MS windows 98se laptop. And I want
to have the files (!) created by the different MS office versions
interchangable as much as possible, without pressuring the limits of my old
laptop too much. The specs from my old laptop are Pentium3 600Mhz, 128MB RAM,
9GB hard drive).

To be real clear this time: I want to maintain compatibility between the
created files as much as possible (without stressing the capabilities of my
old laptop).
So I want that a MS word, excel, powerpoint file created on my winXP tablet
pc can be read on my win98se laptop without having conversion/ compatibility
problems. And vice versa; I want that a MS word, excel, powerpoint file
created on my win98se laptop can be read on my winXP tablet pc without having
conversion/ compatibility problems.

My nephew did had some compatibility problems with putting files from MS
office 97 over to MS office XP. He told me ther were layout problems with
e.g. tabs and colums.

Can someone advice me which version of MS office I can run on my old laptop?

Best regards,
Wing

Any second opinions?

Why not install Office 2000? Is it less compatible? Wouldn't Office 2000 be
less "heavy" to run for my old computer than Office XP?

Please let me know.

Best regards,

Sheesh, YOU WANT THE MOST COMPATIBLE RIGHT?!?!?!?!?!? OFFICE XP IS THE
MOST COMPATIBLE, BECAUSE YOU CAN NOT INSTALL Office
2003!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you already have a copy of Office 2000
that you want to install, or do you have to buy a copy of Office? Office
XP will be easier to aquire than 2000 and will work on your hardware.
What more do you want???????
