%complete not working in XML update

I created a project with only one task and saved it as XML. I used the Word
editor to open the XML file and updated both %Complete and % Work Complete to
50% and then saved the XML. I used Project Professional 2002 to import the
XML file and discovered the %Work Complete has been updated successfully to
50% but the %Complete remains at 0%. Is there any reasons why %Complete would
not pick up the XML update?

%complete is calculated by project from a few other values. I'm too lazy to
check for you, but try changing duration (duration, actual duration,
remaining duration) and if that doesn't do anything change the work values.

JackD Thank you for your quick response. I am new to XML so I am learning.
I did not assign any resource to the task so work, actual work, remaining
work are all set to 0, making my test straight forward.
This round I updated the %complete, %work complete and Physical % complete
to 100. Both %work complete and Physical % complete show 100% on the plan
successfully but %complete remains as 0%.
I set the remaining duration to 0 on the XML but it did not solve this
problem. Although Physical % complete is a non calculated value, both %work
Complete and %complete are calculated values. One works and the other
doesn't. There must be some logic in Project to over-ride XLM data for
%complete to ensure data integrity.

No,

I think there is a sequence to calculations. You have no assignments, so the
% work complete was simply copied. Try making your task 50% complete in
Project then save as xml and compare before and after. I suspect you need to
enter an Actual Start date, and % complete or Actual Duration and remaining
duration.

I agree with Rod. There is a sequence that Project uses when it imports
data. The remaining duration and remaining work are likely to be the key.
