Image files are usually compressed, so compression programs will not help
and may even increase file size with the compression overhead.

You can save the file at a lower resolution {best if you use a different
name to avoid overwriting the original file}. Most image programs have a
file save as options to save for email or web use. Microsoft Office Picture
Manager 2003 has a similar choice in its Export function.

Hi Mia,

How will the graphic be used by the person receiving it?
If they're viewing it on screen then 96 Pixels per inch (PPI)
is the best the screen will display. Resampling/resizing
or decreasing the PPI or the color count (i.e. decrease the
amount of data) in the file you are sending is the way to
make it more compact, or you can 'zip' (compress) the
file and send it as an attachment rather than as a file
that is viewable in the email body.

A Google search for best image resolution returns a number of sites
including this one with some general information:

"do u mean scan at lower resolution?"

No I mean save from an image application a version of your scanned file
suitable for email or web usage. You alternate is to send the image file as
you scanned it or to copy to CD and mail.
