Conditional statement with mail merge

Hi,

I'd like to do a mail merge (in Pub 02) where I test the
contents of the merged field and based on the results
print either the contents of the database or some other
preset text.

I know this is possible in Word, is it possible in Pub 02?

something like it was possible in WordStar 3 before DOS!

I'm not familiar enough with Pub's Merge to know if there's a work around
for it.

I wonder (don't know) if it is possible to concatenate two fields in one
merge field. If so you _might_ be able to structure the database so if field
X has a value then field Y does not and vice verse. Thus if X is empty, the
value of Y is merged, and so on. Would that work for you?

There's also a the liklihood that a macro might work. but that's not
territory I'm familiar with. You might check at the "publisher.programming"
newsgroup where they chat about such things.
