Remove the IMAP account and add the POP account. You can't convert one to
the other.

how do I get outlook to use a pop3 instead of imap?

If the POP account is your only account (i.e., you're not also using
Exchange, since only Outlook 2003 can handle both an Exchange and an IMAP
account simultaneously), then just create another account that is a POP
account pointing to the same server as your IMAP account. Quite often, mail
servers supporting IMAP also support POP. Once you create the new account
and find that it is working, you can disable the IMAP account if you so
choose. Just be sure to move all the messages in the IMAP folders to local
folders in a PST you create or you will no longer have access to them, since
POP has no concept of server-side folders.
