Hello,

Looking for some help re consolidated projects...

Currently building a master project that has 10 - 12 sub projects inserted.
Each of the sub projects is controlled by a separate scheduler. The master
is controlled by the lead scheduler. If an update is made in one of the
sub-projects, is there any way to stop update of master project until
proposed changes are approved by the lead scheduler? Do not want automatic
update of data until cause / effect is determined. Any help would be
appreciated

AFAIK, there is no automated way. You'll have to setup some sort of
agreed work process. What comes to mind

- if the concern is "publishing" (i.e. communicating to others, not
"publishing as in how Project Server uses the word) the not-yet-approved
master project (due to unapproved subprojects), then segate the
published version from the "under contruction" version. Let the
published version be a clone which remains static until such time as you
chose to update it fully.

- if the concern is the published version, then consider no publishing a
version in Project. Just post a PDF copy and then only update/change
when you are happy with the new version.

Maybe there is another way, but it doens't occur to me at the moment. I
guess the main issue is to understand the real concern and work that
issue. I'm assuming your concern is around communicating
wrong/incomplete information ... hence I jump to the conclusion about
managing that.

Hi Rob, thanks for the response.

We do currently publish a pdf version, some formatting and clarity is lost
[ie: when trying to show the whole year] Have worked on this to the point
where we can get decent results printing large format to a plotter. MS
Project print clarity is much better than pdf version though. I do like the
idea of a carbon copy of the schedule for distribution, but this needs to be
a dynamic schedule as we measure compliance to baseline.

Work processes looks like the way to go for now.....

Sometimes I will "print" to large virtual "paper" size, e.g. A3 or A2
when creating a PDF. This enlarges the space available for printing
into a PDF representation and may give you the resolution you are
seeking. Size of paper makes no difference in Acrobat Reader as user
can zoom to whatever they want.
