Constant "need to close"

I constantly get a message that Outlook "needs to close." I
just start it up again and it works fine. Other times, I
close it on purpose, and I get a message Outlook needs to
close as I'm already closing it!

Just now as I was checking my version, Outlook started up
in safe mode. What is safe mode and how do I find what I'm
looking for in safe mode as something is obviously wrong.

Just today a friend emailed me and said that her Outlook
freezes up whenever she tries to opening an e-mail from me.
She had to restart Outlook 5 times before she was able to
open my mail.

I am using MacAfee with automatic updates and it's scanning
for viruses constantly

I am using Windows XP and Outlook 2003.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

p.s. I lots of folders with lots of stuff in them. I save
everything.
