Con't delete sub web

M

Mark Flynn

I inadvertently created a sub web at my web site. I am the Administrator
for the parent web, and the "Test2" sub web. Attempting to delete the web I
repeatedly get the following error message:
---------------------------
Microsoft FrontPage
---------------------------
Server error: To delete the web /test2, or convert it into a folder, you
must be logged on to the server as a user who is an administrator of both
this web and the web's parent. You may need to change permissions settings,
or restart your client application to force reauthentication.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
I've tried closing FP and re launching, even restarting the PC. What am I
doing wrong.

Another possible clue. When I double click on the "Test2" web form the
Folder List, I get a Name & Password dialogue box. Entering my parents
logon ID & password does nothing, but when I close this dialog box - FP
launches this "Test2" web
ALSO, I created this "Test2" web when I was trying to create a Discussion
Web.
Thanks, Mark Flynn

How are you attempting to delete the subweb? You must be in the root web with the subweb closed.

Hi Thomas:
Yes, I'm at the root web, and the sub-web is closed. I right click on the
sub-web in the Folder List, choose DELETE, and get the "Do you really want
to delete this?" caution. I click Yes I want to delete the sub web. And get
the Server error message stating that I must be logged on to the server as
an administrator for the parent (which I am).
Another clue: Just now, I was able to delete a different sub web that I
created weeks earlier with no problem.
Somehow, my attempt to create a New > Discussion Web prevented FP from being
able to delete the sub web.
Thanks, Mark Flynn

You will need to contact your web host in this case or try to delete it via the Server Admin pages.

OK, thanks.
Another clue is when I attempt to create a new web, I get this error

Ask them to delete the service.lck file and run a server health check on your account.

Your suggestion worked. They deleted the "service.lck" file, and everything
fell into place.
Thanks for your help
