contact doesn't appear on the pull down address book

I have a contact icons or contact list, however, when I'm
going to send an email and go to search a name from the
contacts list, it is not there. In other when I select new
mail message and then go to the address pull down menu,
contact doesn't show up. Any ideas why and how I can fix
this?
