Contact selection

In Outlook 2003, after opening the Contacts folder, I used to be able to just
type a letter such as "T" and it would take me to the first occurance of any
contacts starting with that letter. Now, for some reason, that no longer
works. I have to click on whichever tab that includes the letter I want.
Was this changed in one of the updates recently, or am I just missing a
setting somewhere?

Thank you in advance for any help with this.

Turn off the default "Outlook Today" view of your data file. It prevents
screen focus when you open a folder.

Russ, thank you for the fast response, and correct as well. I did not even
connect the two things together, which I probably should have since it was
only recently that I started using the Outlook Today view, and recent changes
are what I know should be considered first. And I even looked right at it in
options while going through them to see if I could find something that
changed:)

Thank you again,

Dale.

There is no reason you should have been expected to connect your use of
Outlook Today to this problem. This is a bug, pure and simple, that
Microsoft has not seen fit to fix or even acknowledge.

It does seem kind of strange someone would program it to do this on purpose,
since being able to just hit a letter is a lot quicker way to get where you
want to be.

I'd send Microsoft a suggestion to change it, but they still have not
followed up on my suggestion from back sometime around 1996 or 97 that it
would be nice if they would incorporate the ability to add tasks to the
Calendar, and have uncompleted ones move forward to the current day like
Lotus Organizer did. Oh well, I've been using Outlook and Office too many
years now to give it up over the little things.

A work-around is to click on any contact to initiate focus, then type the
letter.
