Contact Uploading and High CPU Usage

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: Exchange Just started using Entourage having just moved over to Mac and missing Outlook!

My Exchange Server and Account on my Mac are fully synched but the message in bottom right corner of Entourage constantly shows;

Inbox : Uploading 1/5

After some time it will get to 4/5 but then it goes back to 1/5. This is coupled with Entourage using 50 to 70% CPU and message list in Entourage occasionally flickers.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

I have exactly the same problem and also in the errors registry I have
found a lot of entries saying "Impossible to syncronize record ...".
Usually the records it refers to are calendar appointments.

I can no lonegr see the error log! I did initially get a yellow triangle pop-up bottom right but this no longer appears and the Window/Error Log option is greyed out!
How do I view the error log?

There are people on here that are very familiar with Exchange so I'm
sure you'll get a more specific answer. I'd just like to say up front
Entourage is not Outlook and in many corporate IT departments its not
allowed - only Outlook. That may change but Entourage is not nearly as
robust as Outlook as an Exchange client. There are a number of other
issues with Entourage but I must say that although I have Outlook 2002
when I switched to Entourage I did prefer it. However, I don't have to
connect to an Exchange environment any longer and with the problems
I've had with Entourage and I don't connect to Exchange I'd probably
be using Outlook through Parallels and I know a number of people do
that.

Entourage is being dumped and being replaced with Outlook in the next
version of Office for the Mac. I'm just hoping they keep two things I
particularly like about Entourage and that's linking and Project
Management.

In terms of CPU usage, sync on the Mac will use a ton of CPU but it
should only be a brief spike. Anything that shows a long and lengthy
hold open of the CPU means one of two things. This is the first sync
and its taking a while to complete or sync is in trouble and the
process is being held open. I sync all the time to my handhelds and to
Entourage. All I get is a brief spike when Entourage syncs an entry to
sync services. Again, when I sync over to my iPhone or my Palm sync
will utililize a fair bit of power till its complete. This is normal.
You can go into Acitivity Monitor and if you sort via CPU usage you'll
probably see the processes involved in sync at the top - usually its
syncserver. I used an App briefly to try it in place of Entourage but
it had a terrible time with sync and when it blew it would hold the
syncserver open at almost 100% indefinitely. The only way I was able
to fix the problem was to re-install the app so I quickly got back to
Entourage.

You have one other option for Exchange sync if you're using Exchange
2007 and that is Exchange support is now in OS 10.6.2 natively
supported in iCal, Addressbook and Mail. My understanding is that its
a snap to set that up.

"MAKE SURE ENTOURAGE IS CLOSED"

Entourage 2008 Flickering FIX:

1. Go to the Apple icon in the upper left hand side of screen.

2. Then go to System Preferences

3. Within System Preferences go to Energy Saver

4. After you are in Energy Saver you will find "Automatic Graphics Switching" uncheck that box.
NOTE: The Automatic Graphics Switching is only an option for the new I5 and I7 Macbook Pro.

Once you have uncheck "Automatic Graphics Switching" box the Entourage shouldn't flicker anymore.

Hope this helps someone.
