i am working in word and have about 30 different documents under one folder.
each document has to have page numbering which is no problem. however, my
problem is that the client not only wants each documents pages numbered, he
wants a continuous numbering from page 1 of the first document all the way
through the last page of the last document. does this make any sense??

Hi,

I don't think you can do this automatically; each document is, after
all, an independent file.

But when you've page numbered document one, you could begin the page
numbering of document two at the value of the final page of document one
+ 1. ( Insert > Page numbers... > Format > Start At )

And so on.

Okay,

Open your Word document and look up at the top of the window, where
you'll see the menu.

Click on 'Insert' and a drop-down should appear.

In the drop-down, click on 'Page Numbering...'

(I'm sure you'll have already got this far anyway if you've managed to
number any pages.)

On the dialogue box which appears, click on the 'Format' button on the
bottom left corner of the box, to bring up another dialogue box.

Two-thirds down this new box you should see two options: 'Continue from
previous section' and 'Start at'

Choose the latter option, 'Start at', and type in the page number you
want document two to begin at, or use the increment arrows.

I hope this helps.

Robin,

thank you. this now makes perfect sense. i just wish there was a way to
run it all at one time rather than opening each document one after the other
and inserting the command. it is my understanding that this is possible in
wordperfect, but i prefer word.
