Continuous task

How can I add a task that last say 3 days, but should not be split up by the
weekend. It should be done during a number of consecutive days.

Thanks,
Yvonne

Hi,

Either:
Set a duration of 3ed which is 3 24 hour days ignoring non-working time in
the calendar or:

Create a base calendar with Sat and Sun working then assign that calendar to
the task in the Advanced tab of the Task Information dialog (Shift+F2 to
display).

Hi Rod,

Thanks for your quick reply.

Your answer is not exactly what I mean. The task should be done ín working
time and in normal working hours, but not interupted by the weekend. If it's
a 3-day task it can start on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, but not on other
days.

Thanks,

Yvonne

Hi Yvonne,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

For example, you could try entering a marker task 1 minute duration and link
it between your 3-day task and its predecessor. Now create a calendar for
the marker that only allows work on Mondays. Then set the calendar for the
marker task to the marker calendar. Whatever day the predecessor ends, the
marker task will be forced to start on a Monday, leaving 3 clear days
consecutive working days for
your 3-day task.

Let me continue and gerneralize Yvonne's question. I have a similar issue,
but the task duration is 3 hours. That is, the task must be constrained to
working time and must be a continuous, unniterrupted 3 hours. If the task
will not fit in the present day in the available working time, the entire
task moves to the next working day.

How can I do this?

Hi Bupp,

A slight variation on Mike's answer to Yvonne should give you what you
need. Assuming the working time for your workday is 8:00 am to 5:00
pm -- the task cannot be started any later than 2:00 pm on any Monday
through Friday to allow it to finish by 5:00 pm.

Create a new calendar (Tools > Change Working Time, New). In the new
calendar select Monday through Friday by clicking the column heading and
edit the working time to 7:59 am to 1:59 pm. Insert a one minute
duration task as a predecessor linked finish to start with 3 hour task
Apply the new calendar to the one minute duration task. Because of the
predecessor relationship, your 3 hour task can now only be scheduled
between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
