convert 2000 to XP

I am using Office 2000 on Windows XP but am trying to
compose a newsletter in Publisher along with my friend
who has Office XP and our two publisher versions are not
compatible. What do I have to do to make both versions
work together ? I have tried to use an Office XP CD but
Publisher doesnt seem to be on it. My friend gave me a CD
with just her XP Publisher on it for me to download but
it wouldnt work on my PC
