converting manual typewriter text to word

I have some old documents typed in a manual typewriter many years ago. I
want to convert them to word 97. I tried to scan them via my visioneer
paper port 3100 scanner, but when I tried to transfer it to word 97 the
symbols were unreadable. Is there any way I can transfer the documents to
word 97 other than retyping again?

Thanks.

You need to scan and convert to text using OCR (optical character
recognition) to make an editable Word document. If you are using OCR and it
is transferring garbled text, what does it look like when it has been OCRed
before it is passed to Word?

You need some better OCR software - Finereader should make a reasonable job
of it.

Hi,

I used the editing/Ocr feature. I had to set the brightness setting to
darker because the document was beginning to fade a little and it didn't
snow up well after scanning. The second time I scanned it, the scan was
readable but you could tell that the ink on the original document was
deteriorating. It was typed on an old fashioned manual typewriter and the
ink distribution wasn't totally even.

I've scanned items before and transfered them to word or text. There has
been a little garbling sometimes, but for the most part I've been able to
convert to word or text successfully.

I have the resolution on 300, by the way.

Thanks.
