Converting

Is is possible to convert a MS Publisher file (graphics
and text) to a MS Word document?

If so, how?

Thanks.

No. You can "edit story in Word" and then copy over your graphics but
nothing will allow you to do a one-button process. Seems like you *should*
be able to do that tho, doesn't it?

Nooooooooo!!!!
(Please don't make me explain yet again why Doc isn't the "universal file
format")

Okay. I didn't mean to raise an ugly issue. I just thought that since they
are both MS programs they would play together quite nicely. Silly me.

Play nice, maybe
Save as another document's file format, I should hope not!
Word is NOT a univerally-accepted file format. It should not be treated as
such
PDF will actually preserve just about everything from a document.
You'll have trouble doing that in Word. Especially if you want a filesize
that can be sent over 56k

I would say that Office applications already work well together. They just
aren't connected together via intravenous tubes.
(How about Microsoft Umbilical Cord for Office System Applications v12.0?)

They used to call that "Binder".

Not the way I'm thinking of it...
Binder just bound together documents. Elements from one wouldn't go
seamlessly into the other.
I'm thinking live data streams from InfoPath XML data sources being
propagated right through document sets on-the-fly as it's changed...

I'm sorry. It's just my pet peeve that everyone loves to send things as
Word documents.
Like "I'll send you this picture - I'll just stick it in Word so you can
open it"
Grr.
Pictures are the worst. You can't even get them safely out of Word and into
a graphics format!

R

Randall Arnold

Sure ya can! Cut and paste!

You know, I've been getting those emails lately! With me, that's okay. My
pet peeves don't have anything to do with software. My computer-related
peeves usually deal with user interface issues. As in people who don't know
what they are doing, refuse to learn, and then blame it on the hardware or
software.

And I never realized that you couldn't get the graphics out of Word. I think
I've just copied to the clipboard and then pasted it into whatever program I
was going to use to edit. Hey - it works.

That is the problem Ed living in a third world country. You need to migrate
to a first world country like Malaysia to get a proper standard of
education.

How ironic.

So that would be why our universities are considered the best in the world
then, would it?
