copy tasks (material resources dont copy)

H

Hadi

am trying to copy a summary task with about 40 subtasks from one file to
another. the summary task has material and work resources assigned to it.
the problem i am having is when I copy the task the material resrouce does
not come across as material resource but it comes across as work resource and
I loose whatever info i had stored in the material resource.

help is always appreciated.

Hadi,
Let me refer you to our MVP website at:

John,
I guess the problem am having has nothing to do with the "summary task"
issue. I created a dummy task in a new project and assigned a "material"
resource to it. then copied the task with the assignment to a new file. the
task pasts fine but the resource (assignments) comes over as a work resource
not material. alos it looses the std. rate i set to the material resoruce in
the first file.

Hadi,
I realize the FAQ didn't answer your question. But since you mentioned
that you were assigning resources to a summary line, I thought you might
want some insight.

With regard to your copying issue, this is what is happening. The
default resource type for a new project file is Work (i.e. labor). When
you copy a task that is a material resource from one file to a new file,
that resource will take on the default resource type, namely a Work
resource. You will need to change the resource type on the Resource
Sheet of the new file to a Material resource.

Hope this helps.
