Copying from the web into Word fails

D

DavidJ726

Whenever I try to copy some data from a web site into MS Word, Word will
lock up, every time. When I do the same copy & paste function using OneNote
instead of Word I can copy & paste perfectly.

I don't see any settings in the options menu or anything in the help files
that seems relevant. Any idea's ?

I'm using Office 2003, IE6 and / or Firefox, XP-SP2, 768mb RAM, HS cable
connection.

Thanks,

David...

try using Firefox as the browser.

I had a similar problem copying from IE to Word or to Excel - big PITA.
Seems that the office products feel they have to go out to the web to get
the data that you put in the clipboard!

Since copying web pages to Word takes a lot of resources, you'll want
to make sure that you have enough by clearing out your temp folder.

Thanks for the responses, but.... I *DO* use Frefox and the problems still
occur. I do keep my PC VERY clean, *.tmp's and *.bak's are frequently
deleted, cache's are frequently cleaned, I'm always running Ad-Aware and
(FWIW) the Pagefile is on the D: Drive.

The fact that I can easily copy & paste into MS One Note and not MS Word is
what's really strange.

Okay...give this one a shot. Maybe you have an addin that is causing
issues and sucking up your resources??? (Love Word...but it IS a
resource pig...especially as compared to the new, cleaner OneNote.)

Hi David,

Check your firewall settings as well. If Word isn't
allowed to act as a server when you're pasting from
the Web it sometimes just sits (about 5 minutes to timeout)
waiting to be able to access the data you're trying to copy.

Dian, Bob...

Thanks for the responses. I was running aroun Dian, working on finding all
the *.Dots and trying to determine what it could of been. The only things I
thought may of been culprits were the Adobe create a pdf dll and then also
some Avery garbage I've loaded. Neither one seemed to work.

Then I got Bob's post... someone ought to smack me upside the head for not
thinking about that myself...

Don't feel bad...Bob usually does think of the things that many of us

I'm just curious, why the heck Word has to access the network to paste
something that's in the clipboard? I'm not talking large blocks, my usual
is a name or street address.

Hi V.,

The clipboard basically contains a link to the original data
when it's hosted on a webserver and generally pulls from
the webserver when you paste to get the 'latest' data.

You can use Edit=>Paste Special and choose a format other
than HTML to paste just the text available.
