cost calculation using the custom "cost" fields

I am trying to add 4 values from 4 custom filed cost into the fifth cost
field column but it does not work
What I did was to open the cost field 5 and add (cost 1)+(cost2)+(cost3).....
Please advise

Did you go via Tools, Customize, fields, select Cost5, click Formula?

Try changing your formula to:
[Cost1]+[Cost2]+[Cost3]+[Cost4]

Fields in Project are enclosed in square brackets.

Thanks for your help.
After I reviewed Mike's comments, I figured out that I was not selecting "
use formula"option therefore it was not calculating. Also, I was adding
fomula to the "Base cost" column then I noticed I am limitted to use only
"cost1 upto cost 10" for the formula. Anyhow, one issue is resolved and
thank you.
I have another question and that is I want to calculate SD% from two columns
for my budget. I am adding formula to "CV%" column but it is not working.
Any reason

Hi Majid,

The CV% field is a field calculated by Project. It will not accept a
custom formula. You'll need to use a custom field (Cost, Number, Text
etc.) to be able to create the custom formula.
