CountIF functions...

Here's another one for all of you...

I have a workbook that has tabs for each month of the year. In those
sheets we track all kinds of different transactions.

On another sheet (summary) we track transaction types by day - we have
a row for each day of the year and our staff manually enters data in
several columns.

The formula I would like would look at a sheet (say jan.) and count
the number of a certain type of transaction done each day, and enter
that number on the row for that date.
in previous years we only tracked 1 type of transaction on the sheets,
so it was easy - i just ran a countif the referenced the date in the
first column on the "summary" page. Now that we track more than just
the one type I need to only have the formula count the dates when a
certain transaction is on the same line

To spell it out - I would like a formula in a cell (call it b6 on
sheet summary) to count all the items on sheet Jan in column c that
match the value in cell b1 on sheet summary BUT only if the item on
the same row on sheet jan contains a certain word.

Thoughts?
Thanks in advance for your assistance
