Creating a template in Word

I need a template for 3x5 postcards that I can print with Microsoft Word. (I
have version 2000) I want to print them one at the time and not multiple
cards on a single sheet. I don't have many to print and will only print them
once a month. All I need is something pretty basic. I might want to add a
picture in the background, but it's not a necessity. I'll just have text on
one side and address, postage, etc on the other.

How can I make a basic template for a 3x5 card? Thanks for any help and
advice.

Just make your paper size "Custom" at 3" x 5". Then when you print, choose
the "manual feed" just like you would for an envelope.

How would I set up my text and any images? Just type it the same as if I were
making a regular 8.5 x 11 word doc page?

I added my text to a regular Word Doc. Then I chose "3x5 index card"
from print properties. I didn't see a place to choose "custom". When I
printed what I typed, it printed like a regular doc. I used a regular
size piece of copy paper to test it. I have Office 2000, so maybe there
are a few differences. What did I do wrong and what else do I need to do
to get to print 3x5 size? Thanks.

Don't choose the paper size in the printer Properties. Instead choose the
paper size on the appropriate tab of File | Page Setup.

Thanks. That looks better. I'm now trying to add a simple border around my
text. When the border is added, it's so close to the text that its basically
touching it. Is there a way to move the border away from the text?

If you're applying the border to the paragraphs, click on Options... and you
can change the distance from text to an amount up to 31 points (nearly half
an inch). Depending on what you're trying to do, you might be able to use a
page border.
