Creating documents with a serial number

I'm trying to figure out how to serialize documents when printing. For
example, if I want to print 30 copies, I'd like each copy to have a different
serial number for each one from 01-30. This would ideally be placed in a
document footer, and would reset (or not reset) each time the document is
openedAny help would be greatly appreciated.
