Creating Form Fields

X

Xavier

I would like to be able to insert text or data (numbers)
into one field, and have that same information
automatically incerted into selected fields throughout
the remainder of the document.

Anyone have any idea how to do this? Willing to try any
idea. (FYI: I tried using mail merg -- not effective).

Thanks

Hi Xavier,

If you are prepared to have the document protected for forms, you can use
formfields that you insert from the Forms toolbar.

Each such formfield automatically has a bookmark name assigned to it and in
the other locations where you want the information to appear, you can use a
cross reference to the text of the bookmark. To see the bookmark name,
right click on the formfield and select Properties from the short cut menu.
While the Properties dialog is open, check the "Calculate on exit" box so
that when data is entered into the formfield and you tab out of the
formield, other fields in the document are updated so that the data will
then appear in the cross reference field.

If protection of the document imposes too many restricitions, then you can
use a userform. See the article "How to create a Userform" at:

http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Userforms/CreateAUserForm.htm

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a consulting basis.

Hope this helps

Using an ASK field with corresponding REF fields will work. You'll need an
AutoNew macro to get the ASK field to run when you start up. See the ASK and
Fill-In Field tutorial at <URL: http://addbalance.com/word/download.htm>.
Otherwise, you could make it a protected form as suggested by Doug Robbins.
This is referenced in Word help as an "online form." For more about online
forms, follow the links at <URL:

Chapman's series of articles.

Hope this helps,
