Critical Path

I'm a new user trying to finish a school assignment. According to the Gantt
chart, the file I've got shows a critical path starting in the middle of the
project. Doesn't it need to start from day one of the job?

Also, in network diagram view, should all tasks somehow be connected. I've
got quite a few just hanging there alone.

Sorry to seem to stupid, I realize these are probably very elementary issues
but I didn't create the file and it's difficult to backtrack.

I noticed that someone mistakenly set time constraints (for 2 tasks) of Start
No Earlier Than. When I removed the constraint, it fixed the problem.

Project will set constraints on dates if they are keyed by the user. In
Project you should very rarely be keying a date. Instead you should be
using predecessors and successors to drive the schedule. It looks like you
have it figured out.
