cursor changed to block and not "I"

I am trying out the 2007 Word and I love it except that my cursor is not
longer the thin I shape and is now a black block that takes up about two
letter spaces. It is causing me real trouble with placement in the correct
areas for writting.

Any ideas of what or why this is happening? When I move my pointer around
on the screen it is still the "I", but when it is actually on the page and
preparing to produce letters, it is this black square.

Thanks for any assistance, this is driving me crazy and makeing my work take
much longer.
