Custom shape attributes lost

I create a custom shape in my stencil favorites but when I drag the custom
shape to my drawing the attributes of the custom shape are obliterated and
takes on the attributes of the default shape from whence it was created.

What are these "attributes" that are being lost and gained?
Is it a grouped shape? (is menu Shape -> Grouping -> Ungroup active?)
What was the shape from which it was created?
What's the name of the shape?
What type of drawing are you trying to add it to?
