customer registration form

I have free downloads on my site for embroidery designs
and would like to make it so the customer has to register
to download them so I can gather their email address and
sewing machine type in a data base. I have looked and
looked in the front page help but I can't find it and/or
don't know the right terminology to find it. I'm kind of
new at this and would greatly appreciate any information
on how to do this or where to find instructions to do.

SIS,
What you would do is to set up a form to gather the
information you want and send it to the database. You would
then use the form properties to advance them to a custom
confirmation page. The confirmation page would just be a
page explaining their download should start automatically,
and if it doesn't give them a link. To get the download to
start automatically, use a Meta Refresh tag and set the
destination as the URL of the download. A sample of this
automatic download can be viewed at the following link for
the next 24 hours
