Hello,

How does one contact Microsoft to get help with Groove?

I made the terrible mistake of installing Groove 2007 on a test machine and
used my existing 3.1 account. This has messed up my Groove 3.1 machines even
though I didn't install Groove 2007 on them.

Thanks,
Michael McCarrick

Hi Michael -

Microsoft support will tell you to upgrade all the PCs with your account on
it to Groove 2007, and buy Grove 2007.

Hello,

It does not seem unreasonable to get back to the version 3.1 installation I
started with before this terrible mess was created. At any rate do you know
how I can contact someone at Microsoft regarding this issue?

Just for more information regarding my situation here is a bit of info

I recently (today) installed Groove 2007 in a virtual machine (VMWare) on my
desktop system to evaluate the possibility of upgrading. After installing I
specified that it should use my existing account. This appears to have been
a grave error. My Groove 3.1 accounts installed on my primary desktop system
and a laptop system started having errors. Groove stopped responding on my
desktop system and would not show contact presence. My laptop system
indicated that it automatically installed a Groove 2007 tool and that I had
60 days left to synchronize and that it was now a trial version.

I uninstalled the Groove 2007 from the virtual machine.

I uninstalled Groove 3.1 from my desktop system, removed all Groove related
folders and registry entries. I reinstalled Groove 3.1 on the desktop system
using a previously saved (version 3.1) account file. I have been able to
download my workspaces from other group members. However none of my contacts
show as being online.

I have not modify anything on my laptop system yet.

Thanks,
Michael McCarrick

Hi Michael -

I agree its not unreasonable, and I'd like to see you get some help with
this problem, too since apparently the Groove2007 installer does not make it
obvious that it's a one-way trip.

The only public channel for getting support is to fork over $99 USD for
support here:

https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?ln=en-us&c1=505&prid=9497&gprid=344586

If you decide to just bite the bullet, you can buy a years Groove
subscription via the Help menu in Groove 2007, for $79 USD.

Sorry I cannot be of more help.

Hello,

Well looks like I found a way to resolve the problem on my own.

Installed Groove 3.1 on a separate system (actually within a virtual machine
on my desktop machine). Created a new account specifying my activation key.
Luckily we have one seat left open.

I invited myself (new account) to all of my workspaces in my old account
(also on my desktop system but outside the virtual machine). The transfer is
rather fast.

Once I have finished this process I will uninstall Groove from my desktop.
Reinstall using my new account (from account file saved in virtual machine).
Then download each of the workspaces from my other computers (of which there
should only be one).

Finally I will deactivate the original account freeing up one seat.

Hopefully this will complete with a successful outcome.

I would like to say I learned my lesson but I'm sure I'll do another bone
head thing again in the near future.

Thanks,
Michael McCarrick

Going Mad!

After 6 hours of being passed from dept to dept, I am a firm believer that
there is no support for MS Groove. Again, someone prove me wrong: If i have
a machine that breaks/reloaded/etc, how do I install and activate this
license on a new machine?

The best answers so far from support are: "I'm sorry, this is a new
product" and "we've been a bit busy"
