Customizing list of filters (and views) - MSP Pro 2003

I haven't been able to remove filters from the drop-down menu / list on the
tool bar.

While creating a new schedule I assumed (wrongly?) that I should be able to
customize the list of available filters via the Organizer, by deleting some
filters listed in Organizer under the name of my new schedule (versus those
listed under Globa.MPT); and that this 'short-list' of filters would be
displayed in the drop-down filters menu. After making changes to the
Organizer, the Organizer now shows the list of filters that I want to use but
the drop-down filters menu on the tool bar lists all filters available from
Global.mpt.

PS. I'm having the same issue with the list of views availble in the View
menu.

Any suggestions?

All the filters will show there unless you delete them from the global.
You can always delete them and get them back by restoring the global (if you
delete the global it will regenerate itself).

An alternative is to prefix the ones you want with some character so they
sort at the top of the list. An underscore works well for this.
Just rename the ones you want to show on top.

Thanks Jack. That wasn't the answer I was hoping for but if that's the way it
works. Question: what is the purpose of the filter and view tabs in the
Organizer, and the ability to copy and delete items back and forth from the
global.mpt to your working schedule?

Thanks again.

The purpose of the View and Filter tabs in the organizer is to allow to
see the list of views and filters and other "things" which are stored in
all the currently open MPP files, including the Global.mpt file. You
then select the source and target files (pull down list at bottom of the
dialog box), select the filter (or view), then press the buttons in the
middle to do "that" to the selected "thing" from the source to the
target file. There is also a "help" button on the bottom of the button
list that you can press to be able to read more about this.

You can also control which filters are displayed on the menus without
deleting them from the file by going to Menu: Project, Filtered For ...,
More Filters. Select the offending filter. Press "edit" and in upper
right corner uncheck "show in menu".

Views in the menu are handled the same way in their own menu (Views).

This also support by lots of words in "help" you can read about.
