OS Windows 98. HD Crashed. Bad boot sector. Accessing data by using old C:
as a slave. My MS Department has no utility, reference listing ALL files I
need to migrate to the new drive that will restore ALL my Windows 98
settings, i.e. desktop, other configuration files, Office 2000 configuration,
toolbar, view, reports, etc. files. I cannot believe that all of these
customizations, developed after three years are lost.
I was told they are in the old registry and unrecoverable. The MIS people
will not take the time to identify, find and transfer them, I was told.
Can someone point me to a program/reference that can identify all the files
I need from Access, Excel, Word, Outlook and Powerpoint in Office 2000, and
Windows 98 on the former C: drive. I will have to use this
utility/information to rebuild my custom settings and identify files. In the
future I will back up these files every night, copying them on a network
drive, which our system manager does not do. Their obligation, I was told,
was to restore the files to their original state and it shouldn’t take me
long to reset toolbars with macros attached, other customizations, Outlook
rules, etc.
Finally, if I am incorrect and these settings are, in fact, lost I would
also like to know since I have argued that two of my previous employers used
to back up these individual settings each night from our hard drives.
This is important enough that I can be reached at 800-257-9491 at the
Communications Office if you have answers for me. Please do not call after
Sept. 1, 2004. By then I will have done my best to rebuild everything.
